Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 31st July 2024

And so ends July. My last morning (at least until Portugal 2025) where the alarm is set for 0430. 0500 is the new standard for my rising, although if I am sailing, I am usually awake before hand. I still get excited for every trip. And every sunrise is I suspect the favourite part of my sailing day. A gentle reminder to my guys this August. 0545 is the new meeting time, then 1015 and 1415.

I had given this mornings people the option to cancel. And I had explained why. Louis, Jim, Joel and Stephen were booked on for two sailings (well, Louis only able to make the first) but the forecast was for a stiff NE wind. We could sail on that wind, but would be forced to keep tight under the cliffs, fishing heavy ground for bigger fish. Second sailing was a little more optimistic in the forecast. Understanding the issue, the group had elected to give it a go anyhow.

My prediction, like the forecast, was pretty much spot on. The wind was there, fierce. The cliffs took the sting out of it. The fish were few and far between (total 7) but some 4lb plus fish among that tally. Then, in for a quick toastie and coffee, sent Louis up the road with a brace of bass for a bbq he was attending, and then back out to much less strong winds.

This allowed us to visit the same grounds as yesterday and the same bait ball smash ups were happening. Down to just three rods plus myself, I predicted forty fish landed. It happened that the fortieth bass was landed with a minute to spare. Plenty of 2-3lb fish and some jumbo mackerel as backup. A most excellent session. A day off for my own pleasures tomorrow, and looking like Friday morning may be my only sailing of the weekend.
