First sailing, and out with regulars Sam and Richard, and new to BIF1 Bledi and Martin. With the tide moving hard on the early flood first drops were for plaice and herring. Plaice today were playing hardball, but herrings were plentiful. Martin also nailed the first mackerel of the season for BIF1. Sam was messing around with super scaled down gear and it worked a treat with a string of small dabs and grey gurnard falling to his tiny jig and small isome on a small hook approach. Whiting for everyone each time we drifted deeper waters.

As the tide dropped back it was time to try for a bass. Just five landed, two to Sam, two to myself and one to Martin. But quality fish once more, the biggest perhaps around the 6lb mark to my rod. Also, one showing signs of very recent return from spawning activity, with the tell tale abrasions from thrashing around laying eggs and fertilising them.

2nd sailing I was hoping to repeat the process. But, with Sam remaining, plus Tim and Ben and new to BIF1 Alex, this was a much tougher session. Just a few tiny herrings, some more small dabs and two tiny plaice for Sams ultralight approach. With the wind opposing the tide, drift speeds were slow, so we went to look for bass early. And failed completely. Highlight of this session was actually a very early (for this patch of coast) Black bream, again to Sam's ultralight approach. Even some fat pouting had his rod screaming line from the drag, and the rod doubled over. A lot of fun on an otherwise poor second session.

Wind now an issue. Certainly for tomorrow and Saturday. Sunday keeps jumping around but should it sail, I do have spaces on the first sailing. Lets see what the charts say Saturday night. And then NE winds for most of next week. This co-incides with the beginning of the bass take season on Tuesday. And yet, the only bass I have located will likely be unachievable on those winds, as although off the shore, they are quite strong and the bass remain stubbornly offshore. Time will tell though. It will only take a few crabs changing their clothes to bring them back to the rocks in tight.
