Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 25th December 2024

After yesterdays terrible session, I did not want to put people through that again. "Shake your head Robin. Get some realism. Its nearly January" is what was coursing through my mind. On meeting Kaz, Alwand, Simon and Lee, I also had to go do a sea state inspection from the top of the multi, as right on the coast there was a stiff breeze. This revealed a bouncy sea similar to yesterday, and that dread feeling deepened. But I had got two of them down from London town, and got the other two up on Xmas day. They were all pumped. Maybe neptune would be kind. I reluctantly led them to BIF1.

An hour and a half later, with two plucks from five rods, and just a single whiting landed, I was offering a cancellation to the following group, which they accepted. This took the stress of a little bit, and also gave me a little more time to play with if needed. With this in mind, I headed off to an old favourite for winter. Which didnt fish. Onto another, and here we found some pouting, mackerel and a single very large herring.

It was Lee's young eyes that picked out some birds. Feeding in a tight area. Well, not feeding hard in a frenzy, but working hard to stay in a specific area. Interesting. On inspection the sonar revealed not the big balls of sprat and herring I expected, but odd scattered markings. A bit like bass. Then 3 rods went over.

In the next 30 minutes we managed to get the tally to 5 landed, with just one for the table. Not huge fish, but now I know where they are, I am more inclined to head out with confidence in the morning, especially as I have two especially sharp rods aboard. Although of course fish move, what I suspect to be warm water being discharged well offshore (hence the birds trying to stay in tight without feeding) does not... Time will tell.
