Just the early sailing today, not due to lack of custom but sadly due to a stiff wind due mid morning. With me this morning returnee Steve, and returnee Thomas, who bought along his brother Mathew and Mathew's son Jamie. Mathew a long time since fishing, and all quite new to Jamie.
With all flood tide, and calm seas, I really thought we would be on high numbers. But back to not opening their mouths. It took a few moves before we could find fish that were consistent in taking. Finding fish though, was a doddle, with hoodles of bait and attendant bass predators. And with very few mackerel and scad around, the bait balls are surviving. Not ideal for the sporting angler as hungry bass are the most likely to try some rubber.
Jamie was a dream to get going. Literally I walked away after watching him make 3 casts and 3 retrieves. Probably the quickest ever. And I was so pleased to see him catch his first bass. Steve had a play on the bream which were also obliging, with a couple for the table. Final tally was 19 bass, with five killed for the table. And looking like Saturday 1800 sail will be the first of perhaps three or four days with weather good enough to leave port. Availability ticker updated to the end of July.
