A brief interlude for some strong winds yesterday, which led to a great shore session with bass on baits. And then. midnight, the wind died. The swell did not however, and Alastair, Dex and John, all returning, came to find us climbing small hills of sea. But perfectly safe without that breaking crest. And out for 3 hours of really quite good fishing.
Crab rock only gave up smalls, and it took a few moves to find where the better fish were at. But find them we did, and then settled in to pick away. The total catch of 22 bass doesnt seem so amazing, but then factor in most were table fish plus, and you understand that it was actually a fun filled three hours. Big smiles and a brace all round.
Which was not the case for the 3rd sailing so much. Here, we struggled. Not to find fish, which are pretty evenly distributed now, but to find fish prepared to open their mouths. Tail end of an ebb from a tiny tide, I went searching in some holes where they often accumulate. This did bring 7 bass to the boat for Mike, Lump, Jamie and Luke, but just one of those was for the table, landed by Jamie.
Ive pulled this same sailing from tomorrows schedule to avoid a repeat, but I am looking for 3 rods for the 1500 sailing, which covers the early flood, which is often a productive time at this time of year. Text to 07970 112774 if you can persuade the boss to let you out early.
