Heading out into a surprisingly bumpy sea, with swells far higher than predicted even by my pay for service. But within tolerance for BIF1. Just a shock after weeks now of pretty flat seas to play on. Also a shock, the lack of bird life on exiting the marina entrance. A sure sign that the bait balls were somewhere else. With me, Loz, Will and Brian returning, and James, bought along by Brian.
I went to where I had early flood success the previous day, and straight away, Will nailed one. I thought that we were on our way. A while later, a small coddie for Loz. But of course, no. Not so much marking. Squid everywhere. And so we went hunting. Birds took me out the back, where seas were a little livelier, but the reason for the birds was dolphins. A large pack, feeding hard. Great to see, and some of them did briefly interact. But they were there with purpose, and vanished below for long periods, most likely taking advantage of huge squid volumes in this area.
In shallow, little doing. With just 3 bass landed, and only one for the table, and end of session looming, I reluctantly allowed jigs to be deployed, to ensure the guys all had a feed. It really is that easy afloat at the moment. Like going to Asda. I much prefer the shore squidding, but that is now tempered by the same big swells that bothered us this sailing. Sailings now cancelled for the foreseeable, other than I will be crewing aboard the much larger KRAKEN again tomorrow, hosting another PLAICE ON LURES session. One rod remains if you would like to enjoy the true sporting prowess of these plump flatties. Text to 07970 112774
