Yesterdays later sailings would have happened on perfectly fishable seas. However, the weather application XCWEATHER was insisting that it was going to be stiff SW winds. Way too much for my little vessel, and so I cancelled and pursued other things. As I was leaving the marina yesterday I bumped into Ray Burns, skipper of GREY VIKING and someone I used to crew for over a decade ago. He recommended I check out an app called WIND FINDER PRO. I did. I invested my £12.50 and purchased the app. And already I have my money back, as going by XCWEATHER I would have cancelled this mornings sailing. WIND FINDER PRO told me not to be so silly, and that we would have light breezes until 0800, which is exactly how it unfolded.
With me, on yet another baltic July morning, three regulars, Geoff, Liam and Mitch, and one new to BIF1, on a short visit from America, Caleb. I pushed out and we got down to it. Ebb direction was already happening and I had high hopes. I checked a bit of shallow rock and we got a table fish among three others. Then I had a little run around the circuit, hunting the bigger boys. Yet, it became apparent that the spot we started had been the better spot, so we returned there to finish off the session.
Just 12 fish landed, with four killed for the table. The huge amounts of bait fish are also bringing varies by-catch. Todays was Mackerel, Gurnard, bream and pollock. Always good to see. Mackerel shoals are immense with lots suddenly around. And the weather now looking much better for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week. I just need some customers...
