Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 14th July 2024

Just the one sailing squeezed in before the breeze arrives. One advantage of sailing at first light is it is often the calmest part of the day, winds often arriving only as the world gets busy. Same again tomorrow by the look of things. With me this morning, all returnee's, Mitch, Max, James and Brian.

There was an element of a bbq gathering theme for the trip. As such, I set up for bigger fish, rather than numbers, and that is pretty much how it went. Then, once we had the maximum kill (actually, the number of fish required on this trip which was 5) small metals also came out. There is an outright ban on feathers now on BIF1 except in early spring, so top up mackerel have to be hard won on a small metal jig. A lot more challenging, but ultimately a lot more satisfying, and a lot less danger for fellow biffers. My boat is simply too small to safely work strings of hooks.

Wind behaved itself other than frequent swings, which make setting up a drift more difficult, but overall I was quite pleased with the results. 16 bass landed, lots table sized, plus just 4 jumbo mackerel top ups. And a beautiful cloud scape to head out on. One space still available on tomorrows 0530 sailing, which could possibly be one of a very few sailings this week. Text to 07970 112774 to secure that space.
