Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 13th December 2024

Brrr is the over-riding feel from today. Originally scheduled for 2 sailings, we headed out onto an unexpectedly bouncy sea. Along with me, new to BIF1 Thang, plus regulars Mitch, Matt and Misa. The previous day I had done a run around on the sounder, so knew where I wanted to be. Very few bass shoals present anywhere. Indeed, from now until the end of March, probably the ONLY place I want to be going by last years results, although I wont be there at all in January and February, as I will be in Portugal. Snag was, where I wanted to be was out of the protection of the lee of Seaford Head (yes, it has an effect a long way) and so subject to full channel swells. Not very comfortable.

We fished it for half the session, for six bass landed, two for the table. Then spent the next 1.5 hour confirming there was not so much, barring one schoolie, in tight. Although far less bouncy, and much more comfortable, with no fish coming over the gunnels, I took the decision to cancel the 2nd sailing. Kicking myself a bit as I type this, as the wind did swing back to NE from ESE so swells were likely less, but results being so poor, it didnt really warrant people spending precious funds so close to Christmas.
