Brighton Inshore Fishing - Catch report 10th November 2024

Updated: Nov 15

Another interesting day. All autumnal days seem to harbour things of interest. From the constant stream of Brent geese skimming the sea surface of the recently very flat seas, heading for I believe the Solent eel grass beds, to yet another John Dory, attracted by the ever bigger whitebait, sprat and herring shoals. Ever bigger as they find each other in the ever calm seas. And actually sight fishing is currently viable. You can sometimes catch a flash from 30 feet below. It really is that clear. And all the way out as I confirmed chatting with members of the Metropolitan police diving club, who were using their boat "Proteus" yesterday. The jet stream being back to the North of Scotland, where it was all my growing up and adulthood till just perhaps a decade ago, is so good for fishing on the Sussex coast. I wish I could trap it there for my lifetime.

Nervous to get the same result as yesterday first sailing, on the ebb tide, I still couldnt shake out of my head how many gannets and cormorants were out there. So, I headed to check it out again. And I am so glad we did. This time, the fish were there,. as well as all the birds, and we happily took advantage. And with Lee, Max, Tim and Jake on board, all very well finger trained, the poor fish didnt stand a chance. We were only looking to kill 4, and they were taken quite quickly. No coddies on this sailing, but a few gurnards, and that stunning John Dory for Jake. One of the bigger ones we have seen on BIF1. Total bass tally was 40 fish, plenty table plus but nothing more than 3lb. Great light line lure fishing fun.

2nd sailing, I was joined by returnees Mark and Armando, who bought along new to BIF1 Oda, and also new to BIF1 James. James, clearly had rod hours under his belt which made my life easy. Oda, had clearly not cast a rod in his life. We fixed that before I started the 3 hour timer. He is an excellent caster now.

Fishing was quite different to the previous day though. The little patch of ground we had done well on the previous day had little interest this day, although James did get a good fish there. But then little. Possibly the tide needed to get going more, so I checked where we had done well before. Here we added another five bass to the tally, including the best one of the day for Mark. But then we struggled once more, with birds also vanishing, as shoals of baitfish vacated. A cheeky cod for me though, returned.

OTHER BUSINESS

Seats on hold until winds arrive as need to be tilt tested once fitted. Dont want to drop any sailings or shore work while it is all happening. Especially as I begin to leave the country a bit soon.

Last night I created a WHATSAPP group called BIF1 SHORT NOTICE TRIPS. It was in case someone drops out, that I may stand a chance to re-sell the space, as I hate taking money if someone is, for example ill on the day. It was a premonition. This morning, a client phoned in sick. So, I made the first shout. Four people wanted the space, and James filled in What a great way to not let spaces go to waste. If you would like to be in the short notice group, send YOUR FULL NAME and BIF! in a text to 07970 112774
